With uncertainty one of the defining features of the global economy right now, a strategic priority for elite law firms is ensuring that their strength across practice areas remains balanced so they can take advantage of opportunities as they arise.

Looking ahead to the next decade, dispute resolution is likely to be particularly important in this respect. As a branch of practice that has traditionally performed well in the good times and even better during periods of economic turmoil, it is often one of the ‘hedges’ that help law firms ride the waves of the business cycle.

Travers Smith combines its strength in transactional, advisory and regulatory work with an award-winning contentious practice that spans, amongst other things, corporate & commercial litigation, financial services disputes, civil fraud, competition litigation and investigatory work. Across these areas it acts in high value, complex and multi-jurisdictional disputes involving banks and other financial institutions, multinationals, tech companies and regulators.

On the evening of Tuesday 21 January, members of Travers Smith's disputes practice will share their experiences at Legal Cheek’s first student event of 2020.

In a Question Time-style discussion, chaired by a Legal Cheek journalist, the speakers will give their views on the direction of travel for the global legal market over the year ahead, provide insights into their work on some of the biggest and most high-profile commercial disputes ever to come before the English courts and reflect on how both litigation, and life in a leading disputes practice, are changing amid developments in the legal market, including in legal tech. They will discuss, too, their own career journeys, giving students advice on how they can follow in their footsteps.

After the panel discussion there will be drinks, canapés and networking with the speakers, Travers Smith trainees and members of the firm’s graduate recruitment team.

Apply to attend below. You’ll be asked to submit a CV and two questions for the panel. Please note that the details of those offered places will, subject to consent, be shared with Travers Smith’s graduate recruitment team.
